Blwyddyn 2

Croeso i Blwyddyn 2!

Welcome to Year 2 at Llanfaes Primary School!

In Year 2, we encourage our children to be kind, helpful, and positive members of our school community. As they grow in confidence, pupils are supported to become more independent in their learning and to try their best in all that they do.

We provide a wide range of fun and engaging opportunities for children to learn and develop new skills. We listen carefully to pupil voice and give children the chance to share their ideas and help shape activities, including our Amser Enfys challenges.

These challenges are linked to the six Areas of Learning and Experience in the Curriculum for Wales, helping children to learn through exciting, meaningful experiences.

Class Routine

We aim to support our pupils to be creative and independent who have a love of learning and achieve their full potential.

Reading:
Children should bring their book bags and reading books into school every day. We encourage pupils to read at home as often as possible to help build confidence and a love of reading.

Snacks and Drinks:
Please ensure your child brings a named water bottle each day. Children may also bring a healthy fruit snack to enjoy at playtime.

Physical Education (PE):
PE takes place on Tuesdays. Children should come to school with a change of clothes and suitable outdoor trainers. As the weather becomes drier, we will aim to have PE outside whenever possible.

Outdoor Play:
We spend time outdoors throughout the day, including at lunchtime. Children should bring wellies or a pair of old trainers to change into for playing on the field. Please also remember to send a coat, especially when the weather is wet.

Topic of the Term

This term, our Year 2 class will be exploring the beautiful Brecon Beacons as part of our exciting topic work. The children will learn about the landscape and discover famous features such as Pen y Fan, the highest mountain in South Wales, while developing their understanding of mountain environments.

We will focus on mountain safety, helping pupils to understand how to stay safe outdoors, what to wear, and how to prepare for changing weather conditions. The topic will also include learning about the wildlife that lives in the Brecon Beacons, encouraging curiosity about nature and habitats.

To enrich our learning, we are very lucky to welcome a visit from Brecon Mountain Rescue, who will talk to the children about their important role and how they help people in the mountains.

This engaging topic will support geography, science and personal safety learning in a fun and memorable way.
