Croeso i Blwyddyn 6!

This is an exciting and important year as pupils take on greater responsibility and prepare for the transition to secondary school. Year 6 is also the year of our House Captains, where pupils have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills across the school.

Throughout the year, pupils take part in a range of enriching experiences including visits to Trenewydd, engaging rich tasks that challenge our thinking, and exciting High School WOW days that help prepare us for the next stage of our learning journey. As the oldest pupils in the school, Year 6 also play a key role in leading important school events and being positive role models for younger learners.

It is a busy and rewarding year filled with opportunities to grow in confidence, independence and teamwork while celebrating all of our achievements together.

Year 6 Class Routine

Our Year 6 pupils follow a structured and engaging weekly routine designed to support both academic learning and personal development.

Children are welcome to bring their own pencil cases to school; however, all essential writing materials will also be provided in class.

Physical Education:
Year 6 pupils take part in rugby sessions on Tuesday afternoons. Children should bring a suitable change of clothes, including appropriate footwear, for these sessions.

Community Visits:
On Wednesdays, small groups of children have the opportunity to visit a local care home. These visits are a valuable part of our commitment to community engagement and help pupils develop confidence, empathy, and social skills.

Topic of the Term

After Easter, we are excited to begin our £5 Challenge. The children will have the opportunity to work individually, in pairs, or in small groups to develop their own enterprise idea. Each team will receive £5 to help them create a product that they will make and sell at our “Ysgol Llanfaes Market Place.”

As part of the project, the children will create a budget plan, consider the cost of materials, and think carefully about how they can make a profit. They will also design advertisements to promote their product and present their ideas in a pitch to the headteacher—just like on Dragons’ Den!

This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to develop their creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and financial skills while having lots of fun bringing their business ideas to life.
