Croeso i Blwyddyn 3!

Welcome to Year 3 at Llanfaes Primary School!

Year 3 is an exciting step as pupils continue to grow in confidence and independence. Children begin to take greater responsibility for their learning, developing the skills needed to become ambitious and capable learners.

This year, pupils will have the opportunity to move on to writing in pen, taking pride in their presentation and developing their handwriting skills.

Through our Amser Penigamp challenges, children will build on and consolidate their early skills, applying and transferring their learning across a range of activities. Pupils will also begin to use different areas of the school more independently, supporting their confidence and decision-making.

These experiences are linked to the six Areas of Learning and Experience in the Curriculum for Wales, helping children to develop a broad range of skills in a meaningful and engaging way.

Class Routine

Reading:
Children should bring their book bags and reading books into school each day. We encourage regular reading at home to support progress and enjoyment of books.

Equipment:
Pupils are welcome to bring their own pencil cases; however, all essential writing materials will be provided in class.

Snacks and Drinks:
Please ensure your child brings a named water bottle each day. Children may bring a healthy snack for playtime.

Physical Education (PE):
PE sessions take place during the week (please check with your child’s class teacher for specific days). Children should come prepared with a PE kit, including suitable footwear. Where possible, PE lessons will take place outdoors.

Outdoor Learning:
Children may spend time learning or playing outside, so appropriate footwear (such as trainers) and a coat are recommended, depending on the weather.

Topic of the Term

This term, our topic is the £5 Challenge, where pupils will begin to develop their enterprising skills in a fun and practical way.

Children will learn how to make simple choices when using a budget by planning how to spend £5 to create a product. They will design and make their product and begin to think about how to advertise it for a marketplace event.

This project encourages creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving, while helping children understand the value of money and develop important life skills. It also supports pupils in becoming confident and capable learners as they share and develop their ideas.
