Croeso i Blwyddyn 1!

We would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to you and your child. This is an exciting new chapter! Our focus every term is on your child’s wellbeing – ensuring that your child feels safe and happy in school. This year we hope to build on every pupil’s independence, resilience and problem-solving skills. To help shape them into ambitious capable learners that are confident and excited to learn.

Throughout the year, all pupils will take part in enriching experiences including school trips, engaging in Fresh air Friday and Amser Enfys challenges that link to all six areas of learning from the new curriculum of Wales.

Year 1 is filled with opportunities for all pupils to grow in confidence, skills and teamwork while celebrating all achievements together as a whole. By the end of the year the goal is that all children are well equipped to face new exciting challenges head on, and  ready to transition to Year 2.

Year 1 Class routine.

We aim to create a happy, active, and supportive environment for our Year 1 pupils.

Reading:
Children should bring their book bags and reading books into school every day. We encourage pupils to read at home as often as possible to help build confidence and a love of reading.

Snacks and Drinks:
Please ensure your child brings a named water bottle each day. Children may also bring a healthy fruit snack to enjoy at playtime.

Physical Education (PE):
PE takes place on Tuesdays. Children should come to school with a change of clothes and suitable outdoor trainers. As the weather becomes drier, we will aim to have PE outside whenever possible.

Outdoor Play:
We spend time outdoors throughout the day, including at lunchtime. Children should bring wellies or a pair of old trainers to change into for playing on the field. Please also remember to send a coat, especially when the weather is wet.

Topic of the Term

Our Year 1 children are getting ready for an exciting £5 Challenge after Easter! The class or groups within the class will receive £5 and will work together to come up with a creative idea to turn it into even more money. The challenge will encourage the children to use their imagination, teamwork and problem-solving skills as they plan what they could make or sell.

How parents can help:
We would love your support with this challenge. Parents can help by talking through ideas with their child, helping them plan what they might make or sell, and supporting them to gather simple materials from home if needed. Encouraging children to think about costs, prices and how to persuade people to buy their products will also help build their confidence.

Once the project is complete, parents will be invited to a Year 1 Marketplace, where the children will proudly showcase their creations. Families will have the opportunity to look around the stalls and purchase some of the fantastic products our young entrepreneurs have made!
